Belgian contemporary artist Lives and works in Belgium.
--- The theme I pursue in my work is life...the everyday life. Our lives being influenced by politics, tv, advertisement, work, ..etc. Because of this cascade of influences we are not always in control of our life. We are dreaming it. We follow a preprogrammed path . Because of that we're always missing out on something, there's always something we're wishing for...we're always looking for more. There is always a better place, a better thing. This fake reality , this manipulated environment...this artificial life..are themes I try to convert in something tangible. I am trying to process all those influences and transform them in a sculptural work. The The fairy tale series, for example, are based on this imaginary life, a fantastic world. How we are played and foolished, directed to follow a preprogrammed path.
The repititon of words/text is a way to emphasize the idea behind it. It also reflects another theme i like to work on, the need we have of always wanting more and never being satisfied (see the unframed series 'more, more'). The fairy tale quotes 'once upon a time', 'happily ever after' reflects how we (I) try so hard to live the life we dream of without really knowing where we are going. Other works such as 'There's no place like home' are a kind of parody on our (hypocrite) way of life and the hard reality of the refugee crisis.
